Community groups are being offered the chance to find out how to ‘get off the ground’.
North Tyneside Voluntary Organisations Development Agency (VODA) is holding an open day to give advice and support to groups looking to get started.
The event will take place on Tuesday, September 30, from 2pm to 7pm at the Shiremoor Centre, Earsdon Road.
Officials will be on hand with help and advice on a range of subjects including setting up and running a community group, registering as a charity, applying for funding, and recruiting volunteers.
Elizabeth Grace, development co-ordinator at VODA, said: “With the kids back at school, autumn is often the time of year people are looking for something to do or to put their energies into a new project.
“We can help channel those thoughts and really get an idea off the ground, whether it’s a formal organisation or a small group, we can help.”
One group VODA has worked with this year is St John’s Court Social Group, a group of residents from Percy Main, who wanted to structure some social outings and regular activities.
Group member Dorothy Armstrong said: “From the first contact to the final outcome, the staff at VODA were extremely welcoming, friendly, and helped with an amazing amount of information which resulted in a successful outcome.”
