Youngsters at a Whitley Bay school had some wheelie good fun with British Olympic stars.

Olympic volleyball players Peter Bakare and Nathan French were special guests at Marine Park First School.

Students were given a series of challenges to compete, with the main emphasis encouraging to get on their bikes more.

Peter and Nathan spent time warming up the youngsters, and got them involved in a few volleyball practices.

But then for the main part of the day, the pupils pedalled a static ‘smothie bike’ to power an attached smoothie maker – and enjoyed the results after their hard work.

They also took part in a sponsorship challenge, cycling or pedalling laps around the yard in order to raise money for the school and Barnardos.

The pupils were joined by Sustrans and several parents, some of whom cycled the Coast 2 Coast last weekend to raise money for the school.
