Cloud Nine Theatre Company is looking for some talented young actors to work alongside professionals in a major new production.
Death at Dawn, a new play by Peter Mortimer, is to be staged early September at the Linskill Centre in North Shields to mark the 100th anniversary of the outbreak of the First World War.
It is based round the real life story of the North Shields man, William Hunter who was shot at dawn in France in 1916
Hunter’s story is especially poignant as he was believed to have been under-age when he signed up – and in almost every similar case the condemned man was reprieved.
As well as a professional cast of six, the company is looking for half a dozen aspiring actors in their late teens who would welcome the experience of such work.
“These are not spear carriers, but real and challenging roles for young people serious about pursuing a career in theatre,” said the play’s director Jackie Fielding.
“They would need to commit themselves properly to the production during most of August and early September.
“I think it would be an invaluable experience.”
Anyone who would like to audition should call Cloud Nine on (0191) 253 1901 or email the company on firstname.lastname@example.org
Auditions for the roles will take place at the coast on Saturday, April 26
The play forms part of the Tynemouth World War One Commemoration project.
