Investigations are continuing into the death of a man in North Tyneside.

Police were called to a house in Collingwood Road, Wellfield, Whitley Bay, at 11.18pm on Friday, July 29, after reports of a 68-year-old man with a stab injury.

Police and paramedics attended but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The death is currently being treated as unexplained and a post mortem was carried out yesterday afternoon.

Senior Investigating Officer, Detective Chief Inspector John Bent, said: “This death is currently being treated as unexplained and the purpose of our investigation is to find out what has caused this man’s death.

“At the current time we are keeping an open mind as to what has happened but we do believe this is an isolated incident and there is not thought to be any risk to the wider public.”

Two people – a woman in her 70s and man in his 30s – had been assisting police with their enquiries.

Extra officers were in the area to carry out enquiries and speak with local residents as well as offer reassurance to those who are concerned.
