European take on Christmas

Christmas came early at a North Shields primary school as staff and pupils celebrated an international Christmas with visitors from Hungary, Czech Republic and Finland.

Youngsters at Waterville Primary School learned about Santa and Christmas traditions, from saunas on Christmas day in Finland to shoes full of sweets in Hungary.

Headteacher Mark Nugent said: “It has been great to see children having so much fun whilst learning about Christmas in Europe.

“Having visitors from European countries explain first hand about Christmas in their country has captured the children’s imagination.”
