Event aiming to help people get involved in volunteering

A FIRST ever event is being held to help people who want to volunteer get in touch with organisations about the opportunities that are available.

North Tyneside Volunteer Network is hosting a ‘Volunteer Market Place’ for anyone interested in volunteering to meet people who can help them.

The drop-in event takes place on Wednesday, February 27, at the Linskill Centre in North Shields, between 4.30pm and 7pm.

More than 20 organisations will attend, seeking volunteers in mentoring, sports coaching, working with the elderly and youth work.

Robin Fry, volunteer centre manager at VODA, said: “Taking part in voluntary work is not only great for your local community but is beneficial to you and your CV.

“Volunteering improves your communication skills, increases your confidence, team work and more. Last month we dealt with over 100 enquiries from people keen to volunteer.”
