A community association is preparing to hold a ‘memories’ event for people to share their nostalgia and photographs over afternoon tea.
Rockcliffe Community Association is hosting the Reminiscing Rockcliffe next weekend.
Organisers are keen for anyone who has lived in the area to share their memories and pictures about how life used to be in the Rockcliffe area.
Event organiser Liz Hawksworth said: “There are so many stories to share about the lives of the people in our area and the buildings, we feel if we don’t give people the opportunity to share them they may be lost forever, which would be a great shame.”
“This is the first of many similar events that the community association hope to organise for local residents.
“It is a fantastic opportunity for older members of the community to come together and share their stories, or indeed just listen.”
Volunteers for the Remembering the Past, Resourcing the Future Project will also be on hand, as will the history co-ordinator from Rockcliffe First School.
Association chair Sarah Sutton added: “During our first public meeting in May 2012 we saw that the residents enjoyed being together, to share ideas and chat.
“It would be wonderful to try and develop regular opportunities for our residents to do just that.”
The association hope to consult with residents about future events.
It takes place on Saturday, May 18, from 2pm to 4pm in the scout hut, Rockcliffe Street.
