An idea by a former NHS worker has given birth to a new business.

Suzanne Nicholson, from Seaton Burn, has set up A Beautiful Birth – to help expectant couples prepare for birth – with the help from North Tyneside Council’s The Business Factory after being made redundant.

After 11 years of working within public health, Suzanne decided to take the plunge and set up on her own, combining her professional experience with her personal interest in hypnotherapy.

The 35-year-old is now working with expectant couples to help them better prepare for birth.

Suzanne trained in the Katharine Graves (KG) method of hypnobirthing which not only introduces the notion of hypnosis but also empowers individuals to believe they can stay in control for a more natural birth.

Although she had anidea of the business she wanted , she approached The Business Factory for initial help.

Suzanne said: “Hypnobirthing is growing in popularity as more women and indeed their partners look for ways to take greater control of the birth experience.

“I’m delighted that The Business Factory has been able to help me to set up my own business and I was completely amazed by the level of free professional support I was able to access.

“They filled me with encouragement that the business opportunity was a good one and so far the market seems to agree as I’ve already helped a number of expectant couples.”

Coun Bruce Pickard, Deputy Mayor at North Tyneside Council, added: “Redundancy is not something any of us wish to encounter but often, as in Suzanne’s case, it can be the catalyst for better things.

“I am delighted that The Business Factory has been able to help Suzanne turn her idea into a real business opportunity with practical support and training and wish her and the individuals she helps all the very best of luck.”
