HUNDREDS of people helped a family fun day raise more than £2,500 for a charity supporting injured armed forces personnel.
Staff at Newcastle Building Society have made a flying start to their year-long fundraising campaign for Help For Heroes after more than 200 people turned out for their latest annual family fun day.
The event, held at the society’s office at Cobalt Business Park in North Shields, included a dog show, fancy-dress competition, inflatable slide, face-painting and bouncy castle.
The amount raised on the day was £2,586, the biggest total in the event’s four-year history.
Employees at the society’s North Tyneside head office and branches have raised more than £80,000 for north east charities over the last four years and are hoping to take that total into six figures as they collect cash for Help For Heroes over the next 12 months.
Gillian Tiplady, head of corporate social responsibility at Newcastle Building Society, said: “We had an absolutely brilliant day, with so much fun and laughter all through the event.
“To break our fun day fundraising record was the cherry on top of the cake.
“This has given us a terrific start to what we’re certain will be a terrific fundraising year for Help For Heroes.”
“As a mutual organisation, it’s important for us to make a tangible contribution to the communities in which we’re based, and the work carried out for our dedicated charities certainly fulfils that goal.”
