Family of man murdered in Whitley Bay tell of their anguish

Tributes have been paid to Matthew Davis, who was found dead in a house in North Parade, Whitley Bay.

The 39-year-old was found in his home in North Parade on Friday evening.

His family have paid tribute to him.

They said: “Matty was a lovely lad with a heart of gold.

“He was no bother to anyone and very close to his family and friends.

“We cannot understand how anyone could do this to such a lovely person.

“Our family are deeply upset and we are grateful for anyone to come forward with any information which may assist the police.

Police investigating the murder are continuing to question one man.

Five men were initially arrested on suspicion of his murder and following enquiries, two of these men were released from custody with no further police action.

A woman was also arrested, on suspicion of assisting an offender.

Now officers investigating the murder have bailed three people.

Two men and a woman have all been released on police bail pending further enquiries.

One man, aged 25, who had been arrested on suspicion of murder, remains in custody helping police with their enquiries.
