METRO services between Wallsend and Tynemouth will be suspended this weekend for modernisation work.
On Saturday 3 and Sunday 4 March a replacement bus service, 900, will be in operation during the line closure and will call at or near all Metro stations between Wallsend and Tynemouth.
Passengers in the affected area are advised to allow extra time for their journey especially if travelling to the football match on Sunday 4 March.
The line closure is part of the Nexus £385m Metro: all change modernisation programme and will allow track and technology to be replaced safely by engineers.
Ken Mackay, Director of Rail and Infrastructure for Nexus said: “This work is vital for Metro’s future. Closing lines for short periods of allows us to work safely with the minimum inconvenience to passengers.”
Richard McClean, Managing Director of Metro Operator DB Regio, added: “We shall be providing a frequent and reliable bus service so that passengers can still get where they need to do with as little delay as possible.”
