Students were given the chance to look at the real science behind superheroes.
Pupils from John Spence Community High School visited the British Science Festival at Newcastle University and examined invisibility, super-speed and regeneration, among other topics.
The event allowed the students to reinforce skills and materials covered in science, while introduce them to new scientific content they may encounter in the future.
Workshops covered topics including the structure of DNA, the design or sustainable housing, and an investigation of a jelly human brain.
Students also received sessions aimed at reinforcing fire safety and explored prehistoric history, encountering Stone Age tools and animal fossils.
