YOUNGSTERS involved in a creative writing challenge have had their work published in a book.

Pupils from Tynemouth’s King’s School taking part in this year’s Newcastle Children’s Bookfest were called on by sponsor Arriva to write poems about bus journeys they had made.

Five King’s junior school pupils were presented with their prizes aboard a red double-decker bus after it stopped off at the school.

They were given tickets to County Durham’s Beamish Museum, plus copies of the book.

The prize-winning poets included Archie Pennington and Daniel Crowe both eight and both of North Shields; Anja Short, nine, of Whitley Bay; and Amy Seagar, ten, of Low Fell.

Izzie Thorneycroft, ten, of Tynemouth, was given a prize for illustrating the book’s front cover.
