Two shopping centres are helping ensure Christmas comes early to visitors.

The Beacon Centre, in North Shields, and The Forum shopping centre, in Wallsend, have arranged a host of events this month to help shoppers get into the festive spirit.

Santa Claus will be in his grotto at The Beacon on selected days until December 22. Children can pay £1 to meet him, with all proceeds going to the North Shields Fishermen’s Mission.

There will be late night shopping until 7pm on Thursday, December 17, plus from December 21 to 23, and free parking until December 24.

Local school choirs will be performing the week of December 14.

A Christmas market featuring more than 30 stalls is taking place in The Forum on December 18.

Santa will be in his grotto at the centre on December 12, 18 and 19, with the £1 donation going to the RNIB.

The Forum will also be screening a number of children’s Christmas film classics for free, including The Snowman, The Polar Express, Shrek the Halls, the Muppet Christmas Carol, and Winnie the Pooh and Christmas.

Late night shopping will be on December 17 and 18.

Dave Menzies, centre manager at The Beacon, said: “At The Beacon, we welcome the holiday season with open arms.

“We take pride in bringing a unique combination of fun, festive events and the best Christmas shopping to North Shields.”

Nick Lambert, centre manager at The Forum, said: “We have got a rich selection of Christmas activities on offer this year – from Christmas-themed cinema to some of the best seasonal shopping available.”
