A new DVD looking at the history of Whitley Bay has been released.

Historical group Six Townships has put together the new Bygone Whitley Bay DVD, which looks back at the once thriving town.

Using archive footage and photographs, it looks at how the popular seaside town was once a thriving place to visit, not only for day trips but holidays as well.

John Dawson, of Six Townships, said: “Tourists and visitors from nearby were drawn to its beautiful coastline and beach and enjoyed what it had to offer.

“There was the Spanish City, fairground attractions, the promenade and lots more.

“Our heritage is so important to us all and its important to recall and this DVD will certainly bring those memories back.”

The DVD is priced £5.99 – free to schools – from www.sixtownships.org.uk
