Final reminder for chance to vote in election

VOTERS are being reminded to have their say in the first Northumbria Police and Crime Commission election which takes place today (Thursday).

A total of 125 polling stations will be open in North Tyneside from 7am to 10pm.

Four candidates are standing in the elections – Peter Andras (LibDem); Vera Baird (Labour); Alistair Baxter (UKIP); and Phil Butler (Conservative);

The elected PCC will represent their community to provide a link between the public and the police force; will make forces accountable to their communities, and ensure resources are properly targeted.

• Elsewhere, residents in the Wallsend ward of North Tyneside Council are voting in a by-election today.

The four candidates are: Barbara Bake (Con); Ron Bales (Lab); Martin Collins (Green); and Michael Huscroft (LD Focus Team).
