A firearm was used during a disturbance in Wallsend.

Police attended an incident just after 1am today (Monday) after reports that shots had been fired outside an address in Murray Road.

However, when officers attended they found a blank firing pistol had been used.

Those responsible, believed to be three males, fled the area before police arrived.

No one was injured during this incident.

Enquiries into the incident are ongoing but police are now appealing for anyone who may have seen the males in the area at the time of the incident to get in touch.

They are described as white males who were wearing their hoods up. One was wearing a red and black jacket and black trousers while the other two were wearing all black tracksuits.

Extra officers are on duty in the area this morning to carry out enquiries and reassure any local residents concerned by the incident.

Anyone with information that may be useful to police, or know the males in question, should call police on 101 quoting log 25 22/05/17 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
