FISHERMEN thanked a North Shields charity for its support during the prawn season.
Six vessels, including the MFV Aspire B 903, donated the proceeds of a box of prawns to the North Shields Fishermen’s Mission.
Caley Fisheries Ltd and North Shields Fish Quay Company Limited also participated in the fundraising event at the town’s fish market, which raised more than £400.
Volunteers have kept the Mission Centre in North Shields Fish Quay open six days a week, from 7pm until 10pm, since the prawn season began last September, to provide almost 80 fishermen with activities.
Superintendent Peter Dade said: “The Mission is grateful to Philip McMullen, skipper of Aspire, who approached the boats to participate, the boats and their skippers and to Caley Fisheries Ltd and North Shields Fish Quay Company Limited for enabling this to take place.”
“All the proceeds raised from this event will go to supporting the ongoing vital work of the North Shields Fishermen’s Mission in providing emergency and welfare support to fishermen and their families. “
