FISHERMEN have thanked a North Shields charity for its support during prawn season.
Vessels, including the MFV Aspire B 903, will be donating the proceeds of a box of prawns to the North Shields Fishermen’s Mission, a charity which provides emergency and welfare support to fishermen and their families.
Volunteers have kept the Mission Centre in North Shields Fish Quay open six says a week, from 7pm until 10pm, since the prawn season began last September, to provide almost 80 fishermen with activities, including internet access, film nights and shower and laundry facilities.
The fishermen will be making the donation tomorrow (Friday), at 8pm, in the fish market on North Shields Fish Quay.
Superintendent Peter Dade, of the North Tyneside Fishermen’s Mission, said: “The mission is very grateful to the boats and their skippers, and the Caley Fisheries and North Shields Fish Quay for enabling this.”
