A teenage pilot has been aiming high as he helps young people learn to fly.

Longbenton Air Cadet James Nealings recently became a Grade 1 Glider Pilot at 645 Volunteer Gliding School at RAF Topcliffe in North Yorkshire, also gaining his flying wings at Tayside Aviation.

After working his way through the aviation studies taught at Longbenton Squadron, the 18-year-old started teaching his fellow cadets how to fly.

James, of West Moor, said: “I joined Longbenton Air Cadets because a friend had done so and when he went off flying I thought ‘I’ll have some that’ and I’ve not looked back since.

“I just love flying and it’s great to be able to teach others how to fly and watch them achieve their wings – it’s a bit more special too when its people from my squadron and my friends.”
