Youngsters on a hospital ward received a visit from some of their footballing heroes.

First team players spent part of Tuesday with youngsters on the Children’s Ward and Children’s Assessment Centre at North Tyneside General Hospital and gave them Christmas gifts.

Players Rolando Aarons, Jak Alnwick, Remy Cabella, Paul Dummett, Yoan Gouffran and Jonathyn Quinn spread Christmas cheer among young patients, their families and staff as part of Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust’s programme of festive activities.

Nurse Vicki Greenaway, at Northumbria Healthcare, said: “We would like to thank the players for taking the time to visit our hospital today and kick-start Christmas on the ward.

“The visit is one of the highlights of the year and it’s a real treat for everyone on the ward.

“Being in hospital at this time of the year is difficult for children so today has been absolutely fantastic for them and greatly enjoyed by all.”

Defender Paul Dummett said: “The players always enjoy this time of year and visiting the local hospitals is something we all look forward to.

“It’s a break from football but far more importantly it’s a chance to meet a lot of children, and their families, who are unfortunate enough to be in hospital at this time of year.

“We wish them the very best and a speedy recovery to them all.”
