A YOUNG disabled people’s project has landed a grant of more than £2,000 to fund a personal safety project.
Members of North Tyneside Disability Forum secured the cash after pitching the idea for their project to representatives of 12 groups from across North Tyneside and Northumberland to win votes
The £2,400 prize was handed out at an event at Morpeth Town Hall as part of a police initiative.
The youngsters’ project uses information technology to share advice about keeping safe and encourages other young people to ask questions and share experiences so they feel more confident about being out and about.
Susan Proctor, a young people’s development worker at the forum, said: “The group did extremely well in their presentation using props they had made themselves to win audience support and votes.
“They are now looking forward to getting their project up and running.”
