Four people are to appear in court in connection with the death of a North Shields man.

The quartet will appear at Newcastle Crown Court today (Thursday) following the death of Jimmy Prout.

The 43-year-old’s body was found on scrubland near the Tyne Tunnel last Sunday after he had been reported missing.

Anne Corbett, 25, of Percy Main, has been charged with murder and conspiracy to pervert the course of justice.

Zahid Zaman, 42, Myra Wood, 49, and Kay Rayworth, 55, all of Percy Main, have all been charged with conspiracy to pervert the course of justice.

A 26-year-old man from Ashington has been bailed pending further inquiries.

Corbett, Wood and Rayworth all appeared at North Tyneside Magistrates’ Court, in North Shields, on Tuesday while Zaman appeared in court in Teesside.

All four were remanded in custody to appear at crown court.

Mr Prout, who lived in Percy Main, had not been seen since early February.

But Northumbria Police only became aware he was missing last Friday.

Officers initially treated Mr Prout’s disappearance as a missing person inquiry, but on Sunday revealed they believed that he had been murdered.

At around 3.30pm on Sunday, a body was found on land near the entrance to the Tyne Tunnel at East Howdon, Wallsend – a short distance from Mr Prout’s home address.

Anyone who saw Mr Prout in recent weeks, or has any information about his disappearance, should call 101 quoting reference 209 25/03/16.
