Four sisters from Whitley Bay have been sworn in as Freemen of the City of Newcastle.
The siblings – Maureen Rankin, Denise Kennedy, Susan Wright and Stephanie Fenwick – took part in a special ceremony where they held the musket and swore to defend the Queen and the City of Newcastle.
Denise said: “It was an honour for me and my three sisters to be sworn in as Freemen of the City with the Lord Mayor Margaret Wood.
“My three brothers have all been sworn in but now it has been opened up for the females of the families to also join.
“Being a Freemen is a title that is passed down from generation to generation and are happy to pass this title on to the next generation.”
