Four photographers are in the frame after picking up awards.

The quartet were among the winners in the 2015 North East Wildlife Photography competition.

Samuel Hood won first prize in the Wildlife in Action category for his photo of a great crested grebe taken in his home town of Killingworth.

Chris Castling, of North Shields, won third place in the Wildlife in Action category for capturing a drama involving a kestrel and barn owl at Cresswell in Northumberland.

NHS worker Patrick Bibby, from Howdon, won first and second prize in the Nature Up Close category with his studies of a spider and prey taken at Willington Quay and a ladybird taken on a bluebell at Wallsend.

Jenny Shutt, from North Shields, who won the Mobile Nature category with her image of a flounder in a rock pool at King Edwards Bay in Tynemouth.

Jenny said: “It was so well camouflaged that I only saw it when it moved.”
