A charity rescuing street children in Colombia is holding a fundraising auction.

New Hope For Children was founded 23 years ago with the vision to have five homes, a school and medical unit. It recently opened its fourth home to go alongside its school and medical unit.

The charity currently has 180 children in its homes and school.

Two of its directors – Richard and Jeanene Sanderson – live in Cullercoats.

Now an auction is taking place at Whitley Bay Baptist Church, Park Parade, on Saturday. The auction starts at 11am with viewing from 10am.

Items include a multigym, children’s and adult bikes, dinner service, TVs, computer and toys.

It is being organised by Christine Hodgson.

She said: “I am leading a team of 15, aged 16 to 75, from my church to go out there in August. We are having an auction to raise funds, partially to help with team expenses but also to take a substantial gift out to help the work.

“I have been several times to Colombia, mostly on the annual medical missions, but I also gave up my job to go out there for two years to help with setting up a medical unit.”
