Family and friends are being invited to get out their board games for a special fundraising day.

The NSPCC is hosting a Really Big Board Game Day on Friday, May 15, which is being supported by Hasbro Gaming.

I hope we raise lots of money for the NSPCC because it’s a charity I feel very passionately about

Participants are being asked to make a small donation to play a board game and have fun raising money.

Bev Cavanagh has organised a ‘party’ and is encouraging other residents to sign up as well.

Bev, from Killingworth, said: “It’s my birthday the week after Really Big Board Game Day and I have asked all of my party guests to come along and play a game as part of the celebrations.

“We’ll have a collection bucket so people can donate to the NSPCC in lieu of a present.

“I hope we raise lots of money for the NSPCC because it’s a charity I feel very passionately about and I think it is vital that they continue doing the great work they do to help children.”

Wendy Bates, NSPCC head of community fundraising for the north east, said: “Children naturally express themselves through play and it’s a great way to bring families and friends together.

“I hope workplaces, community centres, pubs and homes in North Tyneside and across the UK will be filled with the sounds of shakers, tiles and laughter as we team up with Hasbro Gaming for our Really Big Board Game Day.”
