Champion ice cream makers from the borough have conjured up a brand new ‘dotty’ ice cream flavour – to raise money charity.
Luciano Di Meo, of Di Meos Delaval Ices in Whitley Bay, has created a special flavour to take part in the RNIB’s challenge to create an ice cream flavour with a difference.
Luciano said: “The ice cream had to be ‘dotty, to represent Braille.
“I came up with a butterscotch toffee ice cream base, then dotted it with toffee caramel-coated popcorn. I expect it to be a popular choice as it’s the summer holidays.
“Some of my regular customers are blind, and I am full of admiration for the way they tackle the daily challenges they face.”
The special ice cream flavour will be available at Di Meo’s on Marine Avenue, Whitley Bay, from July 21 to 27, where 20p per scoop will be donated to the RNIB.
