A borough butchers proved to be on fire after striking gold with another award win.
C Nicholson and Sons Butchers, in Whitley Bay, struck gold in all but one of the awards categories in the north east regional heat of the 2015 Butchers Q Guild national BBQ competition.
Nicholson’s picked up gold with its 21-day dry-aged sirloin steak, traditional pork sausage, beef burger, pork, black pudding and fresh coriander speciality sausage, and Portuguese Piri Piri Chicken and Halloumi Kebabs in the speciality barbecue product category.
The Park View shop, run by Doug Nicholson and his daughter Kathryn, last year celebrated its milestone centenary in business.
Almost 300 products from Q Guild butchers nationwide were entered into this year’s competition.
National chairman, Alnwick butcher Mark Turnbull, said: “Entries have increased this year, such is the prestige of winning a Q Guild BBQ championship.
“Hopefully, the weather will warm up as the 2015 barbecue season gets into full swing and one thing’s for sure – Q Guild butchers come well equipped to cater for al fresco aficionados nationwide.”
