A Wallsend golfer is taking part in a marathon game to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Chris Spence and pals Daniel Gray, of Jarrow, and David Bowes, of South Shields, are organising a 16-hour golfing challenge.

A dozen players are lined up to take part, and they will be doing 100 holes between them, taking more than 5,000 shots between them.

The event will be held at Longhirst Golf Club, near Morpeth, on Thursday, June 21.

Chris, 27, said: “We all know someone who has been helped by Macmillan so it is important to us to raise as much as we can for the charity.

“We’ve set ourselves a target of £500 each, and I am sure we’ll get there.

“We are all really looking forward to taking part on the day.”
