Golfers got into the swing of things to help soldiers who had been injured serving their country.

Whitley Bay Rotary Club hosted a special event at Whitley Bay Golf Club for the 4th Brigade Personal Recovery Unit, based in Catterick.

The unit supports those soldiers who are wounded, injured or sick.

The eventual winner was 22-year-old Signalman, David Nixon from Newcastle.

The unit’s Commanding Officer, Lt Col Steve Bostock OBE joined Rotary president David Wilkinson to present the winning cup and a selection of prizes to all the competitors.

And due to the success of the day, Mr Wilkinson said talks were now underway to make the event an annual challenge, giving a much needed recreational activity for those soldiers who had been injured while serving their country.
