YOUNG footballers will be hitting the pitch in style after receiving brand new kits thanks to a grant.

Whitley Bay Boys’ Club under-13s Rovers team received a cheque for £250 from Sainsbury’s Community Grant Scheme.

The scheme is funded by the supermarket chain’s ‘bags for life’ reusable carrier bags.

Vice-chairman and team manager Craig Peters visited Sainsbury’s in Northumberland Park with youngsters Matthew Walsh and Joe Chambers to accept the cheque.

He said: “We are extremely grateful for this support from Sainsbury’s Northumberland Park.

“We are a chartered standard club and a non-profit organisation, so any generous contributions are well received.

“I would like to say a big thank you from all the boys.”
