I WOULD like to say a massive ‘thank you’ to the hundreds of local residents who made donations to Angels of the North at our fundraising events during the festive period.
Our sponsored carol singing and charity can collections at various locations and events at our Christmas tree on the village green in Monkseaton produced record receipts, which were boosted by the monies raised by our sponsored team in the New Year’s Day swim at Whitley Bay.
The funds raised from these events enabled us to finance donations of goods and/or money to more than 20 local worthy causes during Christmas week.
This included toys to North Tyneside General Hospital children’s ward and the Great North Children’s Hospital, Christmas hampers for Depaul UK, personal requisites to Compass House, toys and cycles to local Sure Start nurseries, emergency care bags for the children’s ward at North Tyneside Hospital, the sponsorship of local school choirs to perform at residential care homes, the illumination of the Christmas tree on the village green in Monkseaton, children’s Christmas boxes to The Salvation Army, donations to Whitley Bay Operatic Society and St Mary’s Primary School, financial support for Callum’s Wish To Walk, the provision of clothing, food, toys etc to Meadowell Connected for distribution to local residents and the provision of Christmas wreaths and garlands to local retirement homes.
Our thanks should also go to the shopping centres and individual stores who permitted us to use their premises for our various fundraising events.
I would also like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a happy, healthy and prosperous 2013.
Angels of the North
