A group of girl guides have been helping a charity – and have named a guide dog for their efforts.

The 10th Whitley Bay Girl Guides, based in Monkseaton, raised £1,500 for Guide Dogs.

They held a range of tea parties, sponsored walks, and a £5 summer challenge.

Group leaders Nicky and Diane said: “We are delighted to support Guide Dogs in their mission to help more blind and partially-sighted people achieve greater mobility and independence. We had great fun raising the money.”

Sue Robinson, of Guide Dogs, said: “We are grateful to 10th Whitley Bay Girl Guides for their enthusiastic support and this much appreciated cheque.

“The Girl Guides will now be able to name a puppy and to receive updates following its progress in its first year. They even get to meet their named puppy.”

“Every penny will help another person who is blind or partially sighted get out and about and do the things many of us take for granted.”
