Dozens of hardy souls braved cold conditions to take a refreshing dip in the sea.

More than 100 people took part in the annual Boxing Day dip organised by the North Sea Volunteer Lifeguards (NSVL).

This year’s event moved from it’s regular venue of Whitley Bay beach to Tynemouth Longsands following a change in the NSVL’s base.

But despite the change, brave souls were still keen to work off any Christmas excess with a run into the cold North Sea.

The popular event, which saw hundreds of people watching on from the beach and promenade, saw money raised for the NSVL and local charities.
