NORTH Tyneside General Hospital has been rated among the best in the country for operating on hip fracture patients.
Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust is featured in this year’s British Geriatrics Society and British Orthopaedic Association national hip fracture database because of the quality of care it offers patients at the North Shields hospital.
A report rates the Rake Lane hospital as the best in the country for operating on patients within 48 hours, with 99.6 per cent seen within that time-frame, and Ashington’se Wansbeck General Hospital was rated best for operating on patients within 36 hours.
Mike Reed, consultant orthopaedic surgeon at the trust, said: “We launched a specific programme for patients with broken hips about 18 months ago, aiming to provide exceptional care for this serious condition.
“A great deal of work has gone into improving the service at our hospitals, and it is great to see the team recognised in this way.”
One of those who have benefited from the improved level of care at Wansbeck General is Monica Armstrong, pictured, of Benton.
The 68-year-old said: “It was the best treatment I have ever had in my life.
“It was absolutely superb. The staff were fantastic, and I couldn’t fault anything. I feel great.”
