A new sporting initiative designed to keep men fit has launched in North Tyneside.
Walking Football is a concept designed for men who do not see themselves running around in a five-a-side pitch any longer, but still have a love for the game.
Held at Blue Flames Sporting Club every Tuesday from 1pm to 2pm, Walking Football is exactly that. A game of football but at walking pace and held during the day to target retired or unemployed men.
Tom Scarry works at Blue Flames and took part in the first event on Tuesday.
He said: “This new activity is targeted at mature males who like football but don’t think they are fit enough.
“It is intended to encourage individuals to come along and socialise with other like-minded men who would like to be just a bit more active while having fun at very little expense.
“It is very popular in other parts of the country, you don’t have to be part of a team, just bring yourself and a pair of trainers.”
Walking Football is a Northumberland FA initiative and supported by Age UK North Tyneside and costs £3 per session.
