Staff at Boots in the Silverlink had a helping hand from their neighbours recently in their bid to raise money for charity.

Store staff were aiming to trek the equivalent of walking from John O’Groats to Land’s End, using a step machine.

But the attempt ground to a halt when the exercise machine broke down during the first fundraising weekend.

Thankfully the nearby Halfords store got into the charity spirit by offering the team a bike and stand.

Boots assistant manager Vicky Miller said she feared having to abandon the charity campaign to raise £10,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support, but Halford’s manager Ian Hunter said he was happy to step in and help.

He said: “It was important for them to finish their bid, so I was more than happy to offer them the loan of a bike.

“I popped in later for a sandwich and the staff were all busy pedalling away.”
