A charity is encouraging people to get organised and raise money as well.
This month sees the return of St Oswald’s Hospice ‘Make a Will Month’.
Solicitors across the region, including Kidd & Spoor in Whitley Bay, are donating fees for organising a Will start to the charity.
Barbara Wood, 66, from West Monkseaton, took part in the scheme last year with her husband Michael.
She said: “I decided it was time for me to update an old Will due to changes in my circumstances. I recently retired, and my Will had been made many years ago, before I met my husband, so it seemed the right time to do a joint one together.
“I have two grown up daughters and three grandchildren, so it is comforting to know they have been provided for and that the stress of sorting out my estate will have been made much easier for them, if I were to die.
“It was really nice to know that as well as getting my affairs in order, I was also able to support St Oswald’s.”
Laura Hargreaves, from the St Oswald’s fundraising team, said: “Making a Will is one of the most important things you can do for those you love. By writing a Will you can ensure that, on your death, your affairs will be in order.”
