A KAYAKER had to be rescued after high winds left him all at sea near St Mary’s Island.
The man, using a kayak modified for sea fishing, was unable to row back to shore due to strong offshore winds.
He had also been left exhausted after having to repair his paddle as it had broken in two.
Tynemouth Volunteer Life Brigade and Cullercoats RNLI inshore lifeboat were called out to help a week ago on Tuesday.
Before the lifeboat got there, the kayaker managed to contact a fishing vessel, which pulled alongside him to stop him being blown further out to sea.
The man and his kayak were then taken on board before being dropped off on Whitley Bay’s beach.
The man was found to be in good health but tired.
