THE founder of North Shields Hockey Club was one of the first to carry the Olympic Torch on day 28 of the UK-wide relay.

Mick Riding, 55, took the flame in the historic village of Warkworth early Friday morning.

Before the event, the IT project manager had described the occasion as “bigger than the 1966 World Cup”.
