Students have been celebrating their success in their summer exams.

A special award night was held by St Thomas More RC Academy to honour the pupils who did well in their exams.

The North Shields school saw 73 per cent of students achieve five or more A* to C grades, including English and maths, at GCSE level.

And 56 per cent achieved A*, A and B grades at A-level.

The annual awards evening saw students, family, friends and staff celebrate their overall achievement, with individual honours also handed out.

The John Bassett Award for Achievement in Mathematics was presented to Sean Lowery who only dropped 41 marks out of a possible 1200 in his A-level Mathematics exams.

Sean is going to Durham University to read for a Masters in Physics.

Owen Miles gained 100 per cent in a Philosophy paper and was awarded the St Oswin Prize for Religious Education. Owen is going to read Philosophy and Politics at Manchester University.
