ACTIVITIES are growing for a popular horticulture show which returns to the borough this weekend.

North Tyneside Council’s eighth Horticulture and Health Show will see exhibitors from across the region showcasing their growing, cooking and artistic efforts at The Parks Sports Centre in Howdon Road, North Shields.

And this year’s show features more family activities for people who will not be exhibiting.

In keeping with the year of the Queen’s diamond jubilee, the event will feature a garden museum with books, posters and garden tools from the 1950s.

There will be displays of children’s creative work, including images from the Children’s Minibeast Photography competition.

Children’s television characters Bill and Ben will also be on hand to pose for photos with youngsters.

Coun George Westwater, cabinet member for community and regulatory services, said: “The Horticulture and Health Show is a fantastic opportunity to celebrate and showcase the tremendous efforts of the north east’s exhibitors.”

The event will showcase the efforts of growers, floral artists, cooks and home crafters.

Displays and shows will include a home crafts and cooking show, craft displays and a vegetable, fruit and flower show and sale.

The event will open from 1.15pm to 5.15pm on Saturday and from 10.30am to 3pm on Sunday.

Entry is £1 for adults and it is free for accompanied children.
