HOSPITAL: Will we ever know the true costs?

I totally agree with the letter from C Ratcliffe about the new Cramlington hospital, (News Guardian, July 9).

I was one of those invited to comment when the emergency care hospital was first proposed.

I recall saying that it was in the wrong place, moving emergency care away from large numbers of the population.

Money would be better spent upgrading existing facilities and having an additional air ambulance to move the most urgent cases.

The quoted cost was likely to be exceeded, especially as improvements to other hospitals were included.

Are we ever likely to learn the true cost?
