Fury guests of honour will be at Whitley Bay Ice Rink this weekend.

Guide dogs and their volunteers will be at the rink on Sunday, December 14, for the Whitley Warriors game against Billingham Stars.

Guide dog Yana and her friends will be there between 5pm and 7pm to meet spectators and hold a bucket collection in aid of Guide Dogs.

Yana’s owner Irene Maloney said: “We are delighted to be made so welcome at Whitley Bay Ice Rink. Yana makes such an incredible difference to my life and it would be wonderful if more people with sight loss could experience the life changing benefits of a guide dog.”

Newcastle mobility team manager Mark Burnett said: “The support of organisations like Whitley Bay Ice Rink is vital if we are to reach more of the 79,000 people in the north east living with the challenges presented by being blind or partially sighted.”

“It costs £35,000 to train a guide dog and we pledge to support owners as long as they need us.”
