A GROUP set up to revive North Shields Fish Quay have met with local fishermen to discuss plans for a new heritage centre.

Members of The Net group met with the seafarers at the Fishermen’s Mission to find out what they think should be included in the design for the Old Low Light building, which has been earmarked as a base for the centre.

Ideas included featuring a list of fishermen who died in both world wars, an outdoor area displaying fishing machinery and artefacts, replica boat interiors and a database for family research.

Net spokesperson Dorothy Brownlee said: “The key message that current and retired fishermen want people to receive when they visit the new centre is that fishing is thriving in North Shields.”
