A car insurer is set to bring 100 new jobs to the borough after securing new offices.

Collingwood Insurance Services (UK) Ltd expects to create the additional positions at its North Shields contact centre over the next 12 months.

The company has bought its existing premises in Earl Grey Way and the building next door, following support from North Tyneside Council, and has also created an in-house training department.

David Thomas, finance director at Collingwood Insurance, said: “Following a successful launch of our new product this is an exciting time for Collingwood as we continue to grow and we are delighted to offer new opportunities in the region.”

Sean Collier, senior manager for business and enterprise at the council, added: “It is great news for the industry and the north east that Collingwood Insurance has decided to expand here.”

Mayor Norma Redfearn said: “Providing jobs for local people is the council’s number one priority.

“I’m very pleased that our business team has been working with Collingwood Insurance and has helped with this expansion which will bring 100 much needed new jobs to the borough.”
