Celebrations took place at a North Shields school last week in recognition of bringing the world into the classroom.
Staff, pupils and parents at Riverside Primary School were delighted to be awarded the British Council’s prestigious International School Award.
And to mark the achievement, a special community event took place at the school, with a variety of games, activities, music and culinary delights prepared by the pupils from each class.
The award is seen as a badge of honour for schools that do outstanding work in international education, such as links with partner schools oversees.
Riverside Primary’s international work includes working alongside partnership schools from India, Egypt and Turkey where strong links have been established, with pupils working on collaborative projects to raise awareness of global and environmental issues.
Headteacher Angela Yilmaz said: “This is a fantastic achievement for our school and the community.
“It is in recognition of the enthusiasm demonstrated by all our children towards international work which has enriched the curriculum, broadened the children’s experiences and made an impact on overall pupil achievement.
“Staff and children, along with tremendous support from parents, have worked tirelessly in their quest to attain this external validation of their sheer hard work and everyone deserves to feel extremely pleased and proud.”
