Police are investigating following the suspicious death of a North Tyneside man.

Officers and ambulance staff were called an address in Wallsend at 8.05pm on Monday, October 5, following reports of a man found with head injuries in the street.

The man, believed to be in his 30s, was given medical treatment at the scene and was then taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle by ambulance where he was declared dead a short time later.

A 40-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident and remains in custody.

It is believed that the victim and the arrested man are known to each other.

There are extra officers on patrol in the area speaking to local residents and carrying out reassurance patrols.
