ONE of the oldest people in Britain passed away this week at a Cullercoats Care home.
Isabel Brown was 110-years-old and died at Monks Haven Care Home in the early hours of Monday, only five days off her 111th birthday.
The great-grandmother was originally from Amble, and lived in various parts of the region before residing in Monkseaton.
She was the eldest of six children and was born Isabella Dickinson Milne.
In 1927 she married book-keeper James Brown.
Her oldest daughter Shiela Ballantyne, 80, of North Shields, said: “My mother had a very varied and eventful life.
“She was the sort of person who was always good for a laugh but if she didn’t like something she would say.
“She was fashion conscious and liked to look her best, even as she got older.”
Mrs Brown also leaves a younger daughter Anne Nicholson, as well as five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
It is thought she was the sixth oldest person in Britain.
